Pascal's Wager Wiki

Trophies reach the player through seven routes: Alchemy recipes, merchants, ground pickups, quest rewards, ordinary enemy drops, the Dark Mist hub's Dream Chests, and the Dark Mist maze bosses. This page lists them with the exact rules from the data tables. Which trophy comes from which route is also shown per trophy on the Trophy list.

Some trophies come from several routes (a trophy can be both craftable and part of an Obsession Challenge preset, or both a pickup and a drop). Eight placeholder trophies (item ids 67068-67075) come from none.

Alchemy recipes#

All 39 recipes use three ingredient stacks, and the third is always one Raw Stone. The first two are monster or relic parts (some need several of a plant or sludge item). The full recipe of each craftable trophy is in the "Where to get" column of the Trophy list. Each recipe appears after the quests named in FormulaData.ShowQuestId (inferred from the column name). The recipes produce the +0 item, so higher levels come from Trophy enhancement.

Merchants#

Prices are listed for journey 1/2/3/4 of New Game Plus when they differ. Currencies are the experience-type materials of the game (see Currencies): Bone Fragment (40001), Fractured Body (40003), Filthy Core (40004), Anthozoan Bones (40011), Dominator Crystal (40021) and Spectre Mushroom (40031).

The merchants 1042, 3004, 7056, 9135 and 499001 are all placed as enemy model 20003, the small treasure-carrying creature the data calls the Black Sprite. Ids 1902 and 1903 are not found in StoryMonster, so their location is unknown (inferred: a special exchange screen). Stock 1 means a single purchase; the remaining stock is saved per transaction id.

Ground pickups#

Fixed-stat trophies lying in the world (rows of StoryItem; the position id is the scene locator). A pickup disappears once its "hidden after" quest is complete. "Arcade copy" marks the duplicate stage used by Arcade mode (story ids 1001 to 1006 are the Arcade copies of the regions).

Quest rewards#

All of these are given by the quest's "item to bag" action. The ten Melos Bottles come from successive steps of one Katib quest chain run by the Gravedigger; the first is named after the first meeting with him. Each later bottle is paid for: a separate "delete item" step (action type 18, quests 55056, 55058, 55060, 55062, 55064, 55066, 55068, 55084, 55086) removes the previous bottle, 1 Condensation Honey and 30 x N Anthozoan Bones (N = 1 to 9; 1,350 in total) before the next bottle is given. The costs are laid out on Gravedigger#Melos Bottle ladder; the step is triggered by the "Fill Melos Bottle" service there.

Enemy drops#

Enemies do not carry trophies in a fixed way. When an enemy dies, each drop group listed in its DropId (separated by semicolons) is rolled once. A group is a list of rows and one row is chosen by weight. Rows that give nothing also count in the weights, so a 15% share is a 15% chance for that single roll in the first journey (before the hero's item-drop talent bonus, which adds a little weight to matching item types). The first time a given enemy dies its FirstDropId is used instead of its DropId (only for rows that name a first-drop quest, and only while that quest is not complete), which is why some groups are marked "first kill" and give 100%. Kills made while the hero's sanity is not normal also roll the enemy's SanDropId; no trophy sits in such a group in the current data. Enemy names are plain-English glosses of the internal Chinese model names (inferred).

The id in brackets is the lowest version the group gives in the first playthrough. The same trophy is a higher level in later regions: Cursed Hood is +0 in Adamina (60103), +1 in Blessedland (60203) and +2 in Karst Cave (60303); Demiurge's Will drops as +0 in Exilium (60112) but as +1 (60212) in Edith and Blessedland. Boss time challenges roll no drops at all.

Dream Chests#

The hub merchant in the Dark Mist sells five tiers of Dream Chest (items 78001 to 78005, item type "trophy box"). Only one tier is on sale at a time: tier 1 until quest 4991001 is done, tier 2 between quests 4991001 and 4991002, and so on up to tier 5 after quest 4991004 (see Dream Chest#Unlock order). Each costs 250 Spectre Mushrooms. Buying one rolls a single trophy from the tier's drop group (all five groups hold only random-stat trophies) and puts it straight into your bag.

TierGroupRowsLevel oddsDistinct trophies

4499000482+4 93.7%, +5 6.3%17
5499000582+4 57.8%, +5 42.2%17

The odds are shares of the group's total weight, summed over the rows of that level. A trophy that comes in three effect strengths has a separate row for each. Group weights are the same in every journey.

Dark Mist maze bosses#

The maze trophy groups 10006 to 10010 contain only trophies. In StoryMonster, 36 rows name them: the 11 Dark Mist boss rows (stories 501-507 and 599) each carry group 10005 plus one of the trophy groups (10006 for five of them, 10007 for two, 10008 for two, 10009 for one and 10010 for the last boss, model 20045), and the rest are ordinary-enemy template rows (story 101: groups 10007 and 10008) and rows in the story ids 1001, 1002 and 2001 (the Arcade mode copies of Heggem and Adamina and its Terror Obsession stage). Group 10010 is also used as a first-kill drop. Boss time challenges drop nothing. The maze level (1 to 30) decides which trophy level can appear in each group:

Group+0+1+2+3+4+5

Each entry is the span of maze levels in which the group has a row for that trophy level. See Maze rewards for the surrounding rules.

Challenge presets#

Each of the five heroes of the Obsession Challenge Standard Mode (level fixed at 30, see Obsession Challenge#Standard Mode (preset heroes)) starts with six trophies, two per slot pair, created at the level of the exact item id listed in StoryChallengeHero. All five share Church Hangings +3, Knight's Armor +3, Demiurge's Will +3 and Tristram's Lie +0; they differ in the two Scars slots.

Hidden mechanics#

  • Region progress raises the level. Enemy drops use per-region groups, and the same trophy is listed at a higher level in later regions. You do not need New Game Plus to see +1 or +2 versions.
  • New Game Plus raises it again. Merchants, pickups and drop groups hold one trophy id per journey (the journey is capped at 4), so 33 trophies are given at +0, +1, +2 or +3 by journey (the counts per pattern are in Trophy enhancement#Pre-enhanced trophies in New Game Plus). The six death-bound pots climb further, to +5, in merchant 1903's later stages. Merchant 1902 and the Dream Chests give the same item in every journey.
  • First-kill guarantees. Two groups give a trophy with 100% chance the first time: the female butcher in Adamina (Blood-stained Scissors) and the boar knight (group 50016) in Katib (Strange Gall Bladder).
  • One trophy per Dream Chest purchase. The shop code rolls once for the whole purchase and the bag routine creates a single trophy, but the price is charged for the full quantity. Buying several chests in one go therefore wastes Spectre Mushrooms (inferred from exchangectrl.lua:244-285 and AddBagItem).
  • The roll is seeded. The chest uses the save's random seed plus a counter that grows by 10 per call, not the clock.
  • Bag limit. The bag holds up to 600 trophies (equipped ones count). A full bag blocks chest purchases, pickups and auto-collection.
  • Unlinked drop groups. Groups 40007 (Edith) and 60007 (Blessedland) hold trophies, but no enemy row names them (inferred: boss or event drops set outside these tables).
