Pascal's Wager Wiki

For the boss fight, see Frollo.

Frollo is a Demiurge in chapter 4, Edith. He rings the bells of the towers around the Colossus of Edith. Elena, who has been elected Vice Pontifex, is hunting him, and the Courier is caught between the two. Frollo appears four times in the chapter, each time further along the story. The optional duel against him is a separate spot and a separate article: Frollo.

Meetings#

OrderWhere (monster id)Summary
1Early bell tower (4037)He says he does not intend to kill the Courier and tells him to go back and tell Elena she is wasting her time. He argues that the bell is not witchcraft but a way to stop the Demiurges from going astray again, and asks why it does not affect the Courier. Afterwards he adds that lies are always sugar-coated in belief.
2After the first bells (4084)He says stopping him is not necessarily good for the Demiurges and that he wants to save them. He claims Elena sealed Edith out of fear and that she does not understand why Vaillant confessed so easily. He wants to bring the Demiurges back to a quiet life, not to rule them. He hands over the Key to the Back Door of the village below, so the Courier can see whom to trust.
3At the third tower (4087)Asked about the white dust in the sky, he explains that Edith made it with an old Marcion ritual and turned it into crystals fused with people. They became part of the Colossus's consciousness and, in the end, its puppets. The Demiurges know about this but chose to burn their bridges. He asks the Courier to find him at the town gate. The Courier hands over the Gate key and he agrees to open the way to the Blessedland.
4Near the gate (4089)He says Elena's ritual has been brought forward and Edith is about to be reborn; the Demiurges taking part will lose their souls. He asks for a final favor and calls it the last request, and the quest "Beat the Newborn Edith" (the boss Edith) follows.

Items#

  • Key to the Back Door (item 10027): given at meeting 2. The description says Demiurges in Edith planned to fight; it opens the back door of the village.
  • Gate key (item 10042): made secretly by the Demiurges; opens the gate to the Blessedland. Frollo takes it from the bag.

Quest log#

The relevant entries are "Open the village's back door" (10406), "Go to the Gate" (10413) and "Beat the Newborn Edith" (10414).

Hidden mechanics#

  • Frollo's four spots are chained by their show and hide flags (the talking ones): 4037 hides on 45007; 4084 shows on 45007 and hides on 45013; 4087 shows on 45026 and hides on 45024; 4089 shows on 45024 and hides on 43007. Each meeting therefore appears after the previous one is completed.
  • Between meetings 2 and 3 the chapter also holds a Frollo-model spot without dialog (monster 4040, shown by 45018 together with log message 10407). Flag 45021 destroys it and shows the optional duel boss (Frollo, monster 4065); flag 45026 destroys it and shows meeting 3. What the figure does in between was not checked (unverified).
  • His last meeting ends by starting timeline 2 (action type 25), the cutscene of the ritual, rather than a normal dialog.
  • Elena (hero 20039) also has seven NPC spots in the same chapter, tied to the same flags, so the two characters' storylines are interleaved.
  • The Gate key is removed from your bag when the quest flag 45063 fires at the end of meeting 3.
