On a road in the Blessedland lies a young woman who is already infected by the Sendrils. She was born noble, gave up her lordship and joined the Demiurges, and she would rather die as a person than live as a monster. She asks a Courier to fetch the Church's Divine Sword (Tristram's Mercy), kept on the altar in front of Trinity Hall, and use it on her. Her father, Vincent, waits in Edith: see Old Man and the Candle. Both people are also covered, from the dialog side, on Vincent and Eleanor.
Walkthrough#
- Find the Divine Sword (log 20902). Talk to her; the end of her request sets flag 65007.
- Divine Sword of the Church (log 20903). Take the sword (trophy 60076, Tristram's Mercy) from outside Trinity Yard. When you lift it, several Marred appear around you: someone else wants the sword too. The pickup sets flag 62301.
- Return to her. She says she is afraid but more afraid of losing control of her fate and wanting to end it as herself. A choice appears:
- Use Tristram's Mercy (the Divine Sword).
- Use Blessed Basilisk (only listed if you own the second sword from The Secret of the Four Holy Pillars).
- Leave.
The choice#
| Use Tristram's Mercy | Use Blessed Basilisk | |
|---|---|---|
| Sword consumed | Tristram's Mercy (60076) | Blessed Basilisk (60077) |
| Cutscene (story 6) | Movie 1008 (flag 65031) | Movie 1009 (flag 65074) |
| Outcome (item text) | The Sendrils inside her are not purified | The Sendrils are miraculously purified |
| Fight | A mutated monster (story monster 6110, the developers' note: "mutated" Eleanor) appears and must be killed; its death sets flag 61006 | The scene resolves; no kill flag is tied to it (a second copy of the monster, id 6111, is placed after this scene with no completion flag; its role is unclear) |
| Material you receive | Bloodstained Tristram (70061) | Bloodstained Basilisk (70062) |
| Sword you keep | Blessed Basilisk | Tristram's Mercy |
Tristram's Mercy and the Basilisk are both trophies. Their listed property is a crit-damage value (the Chinese property label, TrophyProperty 12611 and 12621): 54 on Tristram's Mercy and 66 on the Basilisk. So using the Divine Sword on her leaves you with the stronger weapon, but at the cost of a harder outcome for her (and a monster fight). Using the Basilisk gives her peace and leaves you the weaker trophy. See Trophy list.
Both paths end with Eleanor's items becoming available (flag 65084), including the Blood-stained Will used in Old Man and the Candle.
Hidden mechanics#
- Both options award the same flags. Each sets 65068 (log step done) and 95061 (Witness and War and Destiny), so neither choice is "wrong" for the achievements.
- The Basilisk option is gated by flag 62302 (first pickup of the Basilisk). Before that, only the Divine Sword and Leave are offered.
- The sword pickup triggers an ambush that disappears from the log; the line text only says "he is not the only one who wants the sword".
- Two sets of sword ids. The quest actions delete the trophies 60076 and 60077 (flags 65079 and 65080).
ItemDataalso holds key items 10031 (Tristram's Mercy) and 10032 (Blessed Basilisk) with the same names; no quest in story 6 gives or deletes them, so their use is unverified (the NPC page Vincent and Eleanor used to list them as the consumed items). - The Divine Sword trophy's description says every Proxy appoints the Blessedland's best blacksmith to care for it, and that the last one, Israel, vanished fifteen years ago.
