Pascal's Wager Wiki

Pascal's Wager has no collection menu, but the game quietly counts a handful of things and ties each one to an achievement. This page lists every counted collectible with its exact total, the quest ids that feed it and the rules that the game never explains. All counts come from the quest table (ActionType 30 quests that report to an achievement) and the achievement code described on the Achievements page.

Siflers#

The Siflers are scavengers who search the dead and sell found goods and chests (see Factions; the data comment on all their quest rows is simply "black spirit"). Finding a Sifler completes a quest that reports to Hide and Seek (counter of 14). See Merchants for what they sell.

Chapter names are those used on the Arcade stage list (the stage ids 1001 to 1007 follow the same order as the main story chapters, with boss data confirming the order; the mapping is inferred).

Documents#

Each document pickup completes a quest that adds one to Wisdom (86) or, in the DLC, to Pieces of Old Days (28). All 114 log documents are counted (86 for Wisdom, 28 for Pieces of Old Days). The item table has 115 document items only because the Erosion Scroll exists twice (item ids 71104 and 71118, both completing pickup quest 92917), so it makes one log entry (Documents#hm-a-duplicate-item-exists-erosion-scroll-has-two). See Documents for their contents.

Heggies#

Heggies are the small frog-like creatures you can please by dedicating items to them. Each of chapters 1 to 7 has exactly 5 (table StoryFrog, 40 rows in all, with the last 5 in Ichthyosauria). Satisfying one completes its quest, which reports to Naturalist (base game) or Dominator's Revelry (Ichthyosauria, which also leads to the key of the treasury).

How a Heggie is pleased#

Each Heggie starts at satisfaction 2, 3 or 4 and offers three dedications, one that raises it by 1, one that changes nothing and one that lowers it by 1. Reaching 5 completes it. Falling to 1 makes it leave until the area refreshes (see below). The costs, the answer key and the cheapest route for all 40 are in Heggie offerings (Heggie offerings#Costs and rules, Heggie offerings#Best strategy).

Alchemy formulas#

Alchemist asks for 17 formulas. There are 18 quests that report to it: Q12014 in chapter 1 (a defence formula, per the data comment) and Q22405 to Q22421 in chapter 2. Any 17 of the 18 are enough. See Alchemy.

Tales#

Witness counts 11 quests, the completion quests of the side stories: Q95011 and Q95012 (chapter 1), Q95021 and Q95022 (2), Q95031 (3), Q95041 and Q95042 (4), Q95051 (5), Q95061 and Q95062 (6) and Q95071 (7). Three of them (Q95031, Q95042, Q95061) also count for War and Destiny. See Side Quests.

Hidden mechanics#

Everything accumulates across journeys. A collectible is recorded by the quest id that fed it, and the record is stored in the save and is never cleared when a new journey starts (FS_SaveStory:Restart leaves the achievement counters and the lists of counted quest ids alone). A Sifler found in journey 1 and a document found in journey 3 both count. The Heggies themselves reset every journey, but the ones you satisfied earlier remain counted (Achievements#hm-counters-survive-new-journeys-starting-a-new-journey).

Heggie progress is not permanent. The satisfaction value is stored in a temporary table that the game rebuilds when the area is refreshed (the same routine that respawns monsters and restores health), so partial progress is lost when the area resets (inferred from the routine that clears the table). Lowering a Heggie to 1 is the only way to lose it, and that only lasts until your next death: the revival refreshes the area and clears the list of dead monsters (HostPlayerReborn calls RefreshMonster, controllerstorymode.lua:2008-2022, 3697-3699). A satisfied Heggie stays done until the next journey (frogFinishList, cleared by Restart).

The three offers are fixed per Heggie. The order of rewards (+1, 0, -1) is stored in the data, not randomized, so a Heggie always asks for the same thing.

Alchemist has a spare formula. One of the 18 formula quests is not needed, see above.

Anthozoan Bones counts every acquisition. Illusion (1000) adds the quantity each time the item is put into the bag, from any source, and spending bones on Heggies or other uses does not reduce it. Quest 55084 in chapter 5 removes the Dazzling Melos Bottle, one Condensation Honey (item 10048) and 240 Anthozoan Bones, which looks like the price of the Imperishable bottle (inferred from the quest comment); those 240 bones were already counted when collected.

The bottles. The Dazzling Melos Bottle (trophy 60075) is handed out by quest 55069 and the Imperishable Melos Bottle (trophy 60080) by quest 55087, both in chapter 5. Both keep the wearer in the Abnormal state, so there is a risk of Lunatic (see Lunatic state). Neither can be enhanced or reforged. Receiving them completes Heavy Armed and Imperishable respectively.

Lost Valleys are chapter-bound. The five valleys are stories 101 to 105, entered from chapters 1 to 5. The achievement stores the valley id, so each one counts only once.

DLC counters are difficulty gated. Pieces of Old Days (28 Ichthyosauria documents) is flagged for Normal difficulty and is dropped on Casual. Trading Without Borders (4 Siflers) and Dominator's Revelry (5 Heggies) are not.
