On the bridge outside Katib Forest stands a Courier who calls himself "lucky Drake". The Overseer sent a group of Couriers to look for the Seal of Yekub below the Sacred Tower, and Drake lost his Church hourglass to a Marcion trap while running from it. The hourglass matters: when a curse is near, its sand runs down, and a person who is still inside when it empties turns into one of the Marred. He has no spare, and he has been promised an amnesty (a return to the Blessedland) if the Seal is found.
Walkthrough#
- Courier's Sandglass (log 20502). Hear his story; the end of the conversation starts the line (flag 55001).
- Return the Sandglass (log 20503). The Sand Glass (key item 10012) lies in an underpass in Katib Forest. It becomes available after an earlier chest or crate in that area is opened (flag 52107 is a crate-opening condition; inferred). Drake's later spots (monsters 5105 and 5128, the same stick-man model, hero 20030) show once you hold the glass (flag 52201) and are hidden again when it is handed back (flag 55007). Return to Drake and choose "I found it". He is delighted, and his line "let's set off now" completes the line.
Answering "No" when he asks about progress only makes him repeat himself. If you say you suspect somebody else took it, he accuses you of wanting to keep the glass and warns you: "you won't like what happens next". Nothing in the data turns him hostile; the warning only sets a flag (55008) that changes his idle line (inferred from the absence of any monster or fight tied to it).
Rewards#
There is no direct reward on hand-in other than the Witness count. The payoff comes at the bottom of the Sacred Tower, after the Katib boss has been defeated (flag 55041, the start of the main "Setting out again" step):
| Your choice | What is waiting |
|---|---|
| You returned the glass (flag 55007) | Drake's sand glass (material 70035) |
| You did not | Broken Sand Glass (material 70063) |
Both are lore materials: their texts recount how Overseer Johann Sprenger found the Seal of Yekub, discovered that his hourglass behaved oddly when set on it, and became addicted to the effect. The data gives them no price (-1).
Hidden mechanics#
- Missable. The flag 53010 ("boss intro cutscene finished") is commented by the developers as "not rolled back, used to delete the hourglass and the NPC". After the Katib boss introduction plays, the Sand Glass pickup and Drake's monster entries (5103, 5105, 5128) are all hidden. Return the glass before you go down.
- The hand-in scene exists in several copies in the dialog table (dialogs 51140, 51274 and 51294, one per Drake position as he follows you toward the Tower), each setting 55007 and the Witness flag 95051, so it does not matter where you meet him. His dialog is on Katib NPCs#The stick man.
- The Sand Glass is flagged for removal in New Game Plus like every key item (New Game Plus#What carries over and what is removed).
