Vincent and Eleanor are father and daughter. They appear in different chapters and never meet on screen, but their stories are two halves of the same tragedy, and completing both (plus Patrick's) unlocks the achievement "War and Destiny". The game never says outright that they are related; the link between the lines in chapters 4 and 6 is an inference from what each says.
Vincent (chapter 4, Edith)#
Vincent is an old nobleman from the Blessedland who is stuck in Edith. After the Courier helps him with a candle, he insists he is no traitor and no Demiurge and gives his name. He is bitter that his daughter abandoned both her father and her identity to join the Demiurges. His last line complains that no one cares about an old man like him and that he wishes he could go back to the Blessedland. Reaching that line sets the Tale flag 95042 and two other flags (45045, 45071).
The chapter's other Tale (95041) belongs to a different NPC, the old woman of Find Andrew, who is still waiting for her sons. (Vincent's own idle line, dialog 41126, asks when two people he calls Albertus and Kassandra will come back.) His quest is Old Man and the Candle.
Eleanor (chapter 6, Blessedland)#
Eleanor is a Demiurge lying beside the road outside the Trinity Hall. The quest log says she is fully contaminated by the Sendrils. She does not want to turn into a monster, so she asks the Courier to kill her with the Divine Sword of Proxy, which is kept at the altar in front of the Trinity Hall (quest message 20902, "Find the Divine Sword").
- If the Courier returns with the sword, she thanks him. She explains that she gave up her lordship and became a Demiurge because she was afraid of losing control of her fate. She says her stupid father always held that choice in contempt, but she never regretted it. She says the Blessedland is hopeless and she wants to make a change, hoping her act gives others one more way to survive.
- The Courier answers that change does not require taking your own life, and she insists she could not choose how she was born but can choose how she dies.
The choice#
She then asks which of the two Divine Swords to use. The full outcome table is on Die or Become the Sendril#The choice.
| Choice | Result |
|---|---|
| Use Tristram's Mercy | The sword (trophy 60076) is removed from the bag and you receive Bloodstained Tristram (item 70061). Movie 1008 of story 6 plays. |
| Use Blessed Basilisk | The sword (trophy 60077) is removed and you receive Bloodstained Basilisk (item 70062). Movie 1009 of story 6 plays. |
| Leave | Walk away without choosing. |
Both choices set the Tale flag 95061, so it makes no difference to the achievements which sword you use. Each choice is only offered once the matching quest flag (62301 or 62302) is set. The sword is consumed and replaced by its Bloodstained version. The Tristram path also spawns a mutated monster that must be killed.
War and Destiny#
The achievement (id 10017, counter of 3) needs three quests: Patrick (95031, completed when the duel is won, see Headless Knight), Vincent (95042) and Eleanor (95061). The data lists exactly these three action-type-30 quests as awarding both Witness and War and Destiny.
Hidden mechanics#
- The two sword options are gated by quest flags 62301 and 62302, which are set when you pick the matching sword up (62302 is also set by assembling the Basilisk, The Secret of the Four Holy Pillars), so an option for a sword you do not have is hidden.
- A separate NPC with the same model near the same area is a cultist, see Blessedland NPCs.
