Teresa is the reason Terrence crosses the Dark Mist. She is his wife, a woman the Church sentenced to death, who vanished with relics from the places he visits, and who becomes the final boss as The First Messenger. She is never a normal conversation partner. She is felt through other people's lines, visions and a few cutscenes, and only appears in person in the last chapter. The Chinese label in the data for her boss form is "Alienated Teresa".
Story in the data#
Teresa is discussed in almost every chapter. This timeline lists what the lines and cutscene subtitles reveal.
| Chapter | What is said or shown |
|---|---|
| Carriage (story 99) | When the party first gathers, Terrence admits that Teresa is actually his wife and that he has not seen her for a long time. While unconscious he called her name, which the others noticed. In a late carriage scene a line says that whatever she has become, the speaker will be with her through thick and thin. |
| 1, Heggem | A short exchange murmurs her name and someone asks who she is. |
| 2, Adamina | Cutscene subtitles have a character shouting her name and asking to explain. The Holy Box of Adamina is something the Church has been chasing Teresa for; someone kept it safe for her. The Halidom she took from Adamina is mentioned again later. |
| 3, Exilium | The Church had sentenced her to death. A companion says that when she disappeared he swore to stay and repent. The characters guess that she is gathering pieces of something and that the entrance to the Colossal Grave is in Katib. A character asks to travel with the Courier because, with Teresa still alive, there is no reason to stay behind. |
| 4, Edith | In a carriage scene a speaker still believes she is the virtuous Teresa they knew. A crow whisper wonders how Teresa knows that Vaillant is still alive, and the Courier can ask an NPC for news about her. |
| 5, Katib | A vision at the altar shows Teresa holding the Seal of Yekub while knights kneel before her, which hints she has a link to the Church. A key then appears on the altar. A document called Teresa's Parchment can be found here (Documents#Katib (18 documents)). |
| 6, Blessedland | After the Papal boss (Proxy Higgins) a cutscene (movie 1004 of story 6) has Terrence call her name and say that everything is over; Viola then leaves. Afterwards a character asks where she was taken, rumor suggests she is looking for Proxy to get the Seal of Yekub, and Terrence says he missed his chance to reach her. |
| 7, Karst Cave | A cutscene (movie 1003 of story 7) has Teresa appear to him, say her mission is done and that this is the last time she meets him as Teresa. She calls herself an empty shell that does not belong to this world, thanks him for his persistence and asks him to forget her. Other lines accuse Eckhart of sacrificing her to open the Colossal Grave and blame the party for making Viola fire the bullet at her. A companion makes Terrence promise to come back with her. |
| 8, Colossal Grave | The graveyard whispers call her home and urge the Courier to drink to see her or to free her from the curse. The fight with The First Messenger follows. |

As a boss#
- Where: chapter 8, area 1, arena 10011. The data row is story monster 8001 (hero 10006), flagged as the final boss (
BossFinal1,FinalHit1). Quests 81001 and 81002 are completed on her death. - Levels: the four level columns hold 25, 50, 70 and 90 for journeys 1 to 4 (New Game Plus enemy scaling#How the level is chosen), not for the difficulty levels.
- Stages: three, switched by HP. From the boss report: stage 1 uses bone spikes, black-feather shots and a set of summons; stage 2 adds crows, the Nightmare and a crow shield; stage 3 adds black-mist rain, the crow machine-gun, ground spikes and clone dashes and drags.
- Summons: her
CallMonsterIdlist names 14 story monsters (8004 to 8014, 8017, 8019 and 8021, such as the axemen, Butcher, igniters, deer, Boar Man and nobles). Two of them, 8013 and 8014, are her own model, see below. - Extra rows: monsters 8013 and 8014 use her model as combat entities of level 21 / 45 / 70 / 90. They are in her summon list, so they are probably the clones used in stage 3 (inferred). Monster 8024 places her model as a passive figure, shown by flags 55065 and 83002.

- Teresa's Parchment (item 71024) is placed in chapter 5 (table
