Pascal's Wager Wiki

The safe house shop is the Black Sprite that waits at the start of the Dark Mist maze (Deep into the Dark Mist). It takes Spectre Mushrooms only, never Bone Fragments. It sells a handful of survival consumables, Big Bone, and the Dream Chests, and it is the only merchant that buys random-property trophies. See Merchants for the shared shop rules.

The sprite first warns that walking into the dark undefended is deadly, then offers its trade menu together with the lamp ritual that opens the maze (done with Spectre Mushrooms; see the maze articles).

Selling trophies here#

In this shop the sell tab lists your random-property trophies (the ones with random stat lines, which includes everything a Dream Chest produces), where Viola's and Norwood's menus list only the fixed-stat ones. They are paid in Spectre Mushrooms. The payout is ceil(Price x (1 + (Level - 1) x 0.1)), using the data price of the trophy row and the level of your copy. The base Price of random-property trophy rows is 10 / 12 / 14 / 16 / 18 / 20 for levels 1 to 6, so for example a level-1 trophy sells for 10 mushrooms, a level-6 for 30 (20 x 1.5). Locked trophies cannot be sold.

Hidden mechanics#

  • Big Bone is cheap here. Item 40002 costs only 2 Spectre Mushrooms. Big Bone is the currency for the better chapter-stall goods, and the ordinary Black Sprite and Carriage shops buy it back for 7 Bone Fragments.
  • Only one Dream Chest is on sale at a time. The chest tier advances as each of the four maze bosses falls (quests 4991001 to 4991004; Dream Chest#Unlock order). Dream Chest odds are in Dream Chest#What is inside.
  • Selling is capped by the bag. Spectre Mushrooms stack to 9,999 and the shop refuses a trophy sale whose payout would push you past that.
  • Offering is separate from shopping. Tutorial texts 1072-1075 say that offering Spectre Mushrooms makes the Marred in the Dark Mist stronger; mushrooms spent at this shop are only a currency.
